Stimulus Funds Are Rolling In

(All state-specific opportunities are contingent upon approval by the Governor and the Legislature)

The much touted and anticipated stimulus fund grant opportunities are arriving, some so fast they are almost rolling over each other. We will be sending out periodic updates on certain grant opportunities we think have wide appeal or are particularly important to certain groups. Here is a glimpse of just a few to give you an idea of what to expect in the months to come.

To see all of the Stimulus Package Funds currently available, if you are a member of GrantStation, you can go to http://www.grantstation.com/ Or you can access these grants at grants.gov .

Some funding opportunities are listed, such as Rural Law Enforcement to Combat Crime and Drugs by the Bureau of Justice Assistance FY 2009 Recovery Act - Assistance to Rural Law Enforcement to Combat Crime and Drugs so quickly that the funds are not yet placed in the program, so the award ceiling is listed as "$1" and the award floor as "$0". However, once funds actually get put into this program, it should be a great one for Alaska, and other less developed areas of the United States, targeting rural areas with training and technical assistance programs to address rural needs.

Another interesting program which still has yet to receive funds in its coffers is the Local Youth Mentoring Initiative sponsored by the Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention OJJDP FY 09 Recovery Act Local Youth Mentoring Initiative. This program furthers the Department’s mission by enhancing the capacity of local mentoring programs to develop and implement mentoring strategies to reduce juvenile delinquency and prevent violence.

Other grants out now to look for with stimulus funds include those from the Department of Education with several grants for teachers:  The purpose of the Teacher Incentive Fund Office of Elementary & Secondary Education; Overview Information: Teacher Incentive Fund Program- Recovery Act (ARRA) CFDA 84.385  is to support programs that develop and implement performance-based teacher and principal compensation systems, based primarily on increases in student achievement, in high-need schools.

The Teacher Quality Partnership Program Office of Postsecondary Education; Overview Information: Teacher Quality Partnership Grants Program – Recovery Act (ARRA) CFDA (84.405A) seeks to improve the quality of new teachers working in high-need Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) and high-need schools by creating successful and high-quality model Pre-Baccalaureate Teacher Preparation programs and/or Teaching Residency programs for those qualified to begin teaching.

Over $242.5 million has been awarded for the Native American Housing Block Grant Program Native American Housing Block Grants . Under this program, Funds can be used from acquisition of housing  to renovation and all phases in between the construction phase (see announcement for particulars).

There is still time to apply for one, but not both, of the National Endowment for the Arts Stimulus Package Grants. You are not precluded from applying for other NEA grants - but you can only apply for one of these NEA stimulus package grants.  One of them is offered through the channel of the state arts and regional organizations, and that deadline for the state/regional organizations closed March 13.  It is not too late for local organizations to seek those NEA funds through the state channels. The deadline for the direct application through NEA The Arts and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Public Law 111-5 ("Recovery Act")  for local arts organizations is still open until April 2.  Local arts organizations have to have received funds from NEA at least once since 2005 to apply to NEA directly for funds.
