Grantwriting Overview

Class Syllabus

Schedule: 2 days, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. (but can extend to total 15 hours if needed for credits)
Students: 15 (min.) – 30 (max.)
Credits: (suggested) 1.0 Professional Development units

Instructor: Sharon Gherman/Funding Exchange staff, Alaska Funding Exchange
Textbook: Not required (handouts provided); grantwriting handbook available for purchase from Alaska Funding Exchange if desired (at discounted price of $50)
Grading Policy: A-F based on points derived from a combination of attendance (50%), participation (50%). All homework is due to the instructor no later than 8 days after the first day of class.
Classroom/Equipment Requirements: Classroom with multimedia projector/computer or Smart Cart; whiteboard

Getting Started: Organizing to Write Grant Proposals
            Identifying the right grant maker
            Creating a grants strategy
            Developing a Letter of Inquiry
            Choosing the Right Title

Writing a Full Grant Proposal:
           
Need Statement
            Methods of documenting the need
            Creating a sense of urgency (interactive work session)
            Writing the statement of need

Budget and Budget Narrative
            Project Description/Narrative
                        Goals and Objectives (interactive work session)
